Work Schedule:

Full-time, 12-month Associate Dean position available July 2018. Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

General Description:

The Pacific Lutheran University School of Business invites applications for a full-time associate dean starting July 15, 2018. The Associate Dean will serve as an administrative faculty member who works with the dean, faculty, and staff to achieve the mission and strategic goals of the School of the Business. This position supports the functions and operations of the School of Business. Primary responsibilities include maintenance of AACSB International accreditation, management of the assurance of learning and assessment process, management of part-time faculty, faculty development, budget administration, support of student co-curricular activities, curriculum consultation, class schedule management, coordinating with the faculty chair/committees, and other duties as assigned by the dean. May teach 1-2 courses per year in own discipline area. This position requires collegiality and the ability to coordinate with others to achieve desired outcomes. This position reports to the Dean of the School of Business. May be appointed to rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor as per previous earned rank. Eligible for tenure process and promotion.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

-Serve as principle operations manager of the School of Business.
-Manage ongoing AACSB International accreditation including coordination of activities and report writing.
-Manage the assurance of learning, assessment, and curriculum development process in coordination with faculty committees.
-Manage part-time faculty.
-Coordinate with the dean, staff, and faculty to achieve strategic goals.
-Support student co-curricular activities.
-May teach 1-2 courses per year in own discipline area.
-Support the dean in building external relationships with alumni and other stakeholders.
-Serve as a public liaison to internal and external constituents and represent the School on behalf of the dean.
-Coordinate with the dean to build collaborative relationships with other educational institutions including internationally.
-Coordinate with the dean and others on organizing events for the School.
-Assist in faculty development in coordination with the faculty chair.
-Assist the dean in organizing and managing faculty searches.
-Participate in the University’s Graduate Council and other committees or work groups.
-Work closely with graduate program directors and the Center for Graduate Programs and Continuing Education in the recruitment of graduate students and expansion of programs.
-Assist the dean, faculty, and staff in supporting the mission of the School and building a culture of excellence that incorporates fairness, integrity, creativity, innovation, engagement, and community service.
-Perform other related duties and complete special projects as assigned by the dean.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Broad skills and abilities include but are not limited to:
-Effective communication and facilitation skills.
-Detailed understanding of AACSB International accreditation and processes.
-Detailed understanding of assurance of learning and assessment.
-Ability to teach in a business discipline.
-Ability to maintain own faculty qualifications according to our AACSB International accreditation in keeping with administrative faculty status.
-Possess a results-oriented focus in collegial collaboration with others.
-Able to support our students in seeking meaningful lives in the global economy.

Required Qualifications:

-Terminal degree in a business discipline. ABD will be considered, but the terminal degree must be in hand by the time of appointment. Terminal degrees in other fields with strong professional credentials may be considered.
-Experience with AACSB International accreditation and assurance of learning.
-Collegial and respectful of diverse stakeholders.
-Evidence of commitment to teaching, research, and service.
-Applicant must have the ability to, after receiving an offer of or after starting employment, provide proof of US Citizenship or a current valid visa to work in this country, without any support from PLU.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Terminal degree from an AACSB International accredited institution.
-Earned tenure and promotion at an AACSB International accredited institution.
-Administrative experience in an AACSB International accredited School/College of Business.
-Familiarity with faculty collaboration and curriculum development.
-Preference for candidates who are academically qualified with respect to PLU’s AACSB International accreditation. Being academically qualified includes a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed scholarship – or the potential to achieve one.
